Not many people know how to manage money. Nearly 60% of Americans don’t have enough savings to cover a $1,000 emergency expense, forcing many to rely on credit cards, loans, or other debt to manage unexpected costs.
At home, in New Jersey, nearly 53% of residents report living paycheck to paycheck.
Knowledge is power – and yet we still struggle to teach basic personal finance, economics, and business principles to students which will set them up to be more financially literate.
The NJCEE noticed a gap. Not only in financial knowledge. There are gaps in the path to truly engaging students so they relate to and retain key financial knowledge, habits, and behaviors they need today, and tomorrow.
Those gaps are in student engagement. In teacher preparation. And in free resources for teaching personal finance, economics, and business.
The NJCEE, an affiliate of the national 501(c)(3), Council for Economic Education is the premier provider of student competitions, and teacher professional development. NJCEE providers teacher training to hundreds of teachers every year, more than any other provider.
Most importantly, the NJCEE is a homegrown, for-teachers-by-teachers organization. A group of dedicated volunteers looking to make a difference.
